PHOTOGRAPHER CHRIS KINSEL
My name is Chris Kinsel, 15 years old out of CNJ. I have been taking photos for a little over a year now and its been an awesome experience. I try my best to embrace the people around me and capture them in my images. It’s one thing to shoot photos of people at contest that you have no clue who they are, but it’s another thing to shoot photos of your best friends doing what they love the most in the beautiful places.
Photo 1
Here is a photo I shot over the summer of my good friend Steve Gerard. This image was shot with the Nikkor 10.5 fisheye on the D90 inside of an SPLWater Housing. It wasn’t by any means a big day, but between the lighting, the wave, the surfer, and my positioning, this image turned out to be one of my favorites.
Photo 2
This is a very unique shot and one that I can look at over and over again. It is very simple shot and there is not much going on in the photo. The focus in this image is on the water ripples, but in the distance you see an out of focus surfer and a wave. The reason I really enjoy this image is because there is no houses, beaches, rocks, or even birds in the photo, just an unknown human and mother nature. I shot this photograph with a housing, I had in it the D90 and the Nikkor 35 1.8 lens, shot at 1.8. ( hints the low depth of field )
Photo 3
This is a photo of my brother, Michael Kinsel, surfing a small wave at his home break. The blurred rock in the foreground really pulls your attention to the surfer. But the one reason I feel this is a very unique image is because if you look in the back round, you will see a fin sticking out of the ocean. Shot with D90 and the 55-300.
Photo 4 & 5
These next two photos were both taken after Super-Storm Sandy hit the East Coast. The first image consists of a local surfer, Shaun McGrath, with his board, trying to figure out how he is going to get to the ocean. What I like most about this image is that even though it was taken from the most North end of Belmar, you can see all of the damage done along all of Ocean Ave, and even into Spring Lake and Manasquan in the back round. Shot with D90 and the 18-105.
The second shot is an image of the restrooms turned completely 180 degrees off of it’s foundation. Shot in Belmar, NJ with the D90 and the 55-300.
All of these objects above make what I do possible. These are all creative tools and aid in creating creative images. With out a creative person, these tools are useless. I try to focus more on the creative side of photographer, then the technical side. Yes, it is important to have gear that you can trust but it is not essential as long as you are taking photographs.
Thanks,
